Billions of people around the world were moved last night and I was touched by all the cheers and tears.
This election on appearance was seen as a win for minorities. Some say, It was seen as something to heal our racial past. However, I must say, I was overwhelmed by the 45 percent of white folks that voted for Obama. John McCain received 55 percent of the white vote in this election. Many were shocked that it was this high, but inside the numbers, you see something great.
This election could have never been won by Blacks, Asians, Chicanos or even Native Americans alone. No minority group could have done this by themselves. This election goes to the 45 percent of white voters that voted for Obama. This goes to white folks that put an idea of hope above the idea of the Republican Party or their Racial identity. Looking out at Grant Park, I could see many faces of all colors with the same cause of unity.
I have always been proud of the small Town I grew up in Nevada. I love my home teams in Football and I respect my neighbors. But, I have always believed that Americans were bigger than race and party. All Americans believe in a their parties but they believe in people. I am so thrilled to say, "thanks" to my white friends for Tuesday night. They, my Caucasian friends, have always said we are that "Shining Castle on the hill," the land of opportunity and/or the Greatest country in the world. I know, I cannot speak for all, but "thank you." Thanks for showing the world again that we are great. Not because of our massive battleships, fast cars, or the 1990 UNLV Running Rebels, but because of this election. Every four years we have the most violent thing that happens in a democracy, an election for President . Our Democracy's violent change of power without a shot being fired is so unique that every country marvels at it.
Last night with a gracious Senator McCain speaking to Billions of people around the world, he told Americans that we will work and come together to help this adminstration. To quote Senator McCain, "Whatever our differences, we are fellow Americans, and please believe me when I say, No association has ever meant more to me than that. "
I am so proud of our American Family. I think it has been said, best by the Author, Samuel F. Smith, "My country,' tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing; land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrims' pride, from every mountainside let freedom ring! "
